Susan Roberts

Founder

In 2002, Susan Roberts established the Growing Food Security in Alberta (GFSA) Network alongside several other dietitians and nutritionists.  After a decade of relationship building, information sharing, and advocacy, there was a pressing need for a more formal and established food security organization to support and advocate for Albertans and their food system. Susan and several other GFSA members decided to take action and in 2013, founded Alberta Food Matters (AFM) as a non-profit organization. Susan continued as the Board Chair of AFM until 2018 and finished her final year on the Board (2019) as Treasurer. Now semi retired, Susan continues to enjoy her work as a community coach, facilitator and owner of Community Building Resources. Susan has worked in asset-based community development and community coaching across Canada and the US for the last 25 years. Over the last 15 years Susan has focused her energy in being an advocate for an ecologically sound food system and food sovereignty in Canada and Alberta.  Susan continues to engage in food issues through the Jasper Local Food Society and by supporting AFM with planning the upcoming School Food Symposium.
